Reggia of Colorno
Residence with beautiful french garden where Maria Luigia of Austria lived.
The Reggia of Colorno, over the centuries, was the protagonist of numerous historical and political events that have characterized the Parma area. The palace, therefore, underwent numerous changes compared to the original project. The Castle on the Po, in its current shape, is the result of embellishments and renovations carried out under the guidance of important architects, like Alexandre Petitot. The main floor was stripped by Vittorio Emanuele II but this has not lost its splendor. Polychrome marbles, handles and locks in bronze, stuccoes, fireplaces in rococo style give, even today, the character of a sumptuous palace. The apartment of Duke Don Ferdinando di Borbone is among the most beautiful and sought after rooms of the palace. The nobleman was so devout that he wanted to move his apartments to the wing of the castle overlooking the river, near the small church of San Liborio. The apartment can be considered a palace inside the palace. The rooms are decorated with fake tapestries depicting scenes from the Old Testament and cameos with games of putti. In 1775, the duke built an imposing sacred building consecrated to San Liborio in place of the small oratory commissioned by Francesco Farnese in 1722.
