Palazzo Schifanoia
The sweet dodge the boredom between parties and splendor of Delizie Estensi
Palazzo Schifanoia in Ferrara is one of the last Renaissance "Delizie", Este residences used for fun and leisure. Not surprisingly, the term Schifanoia refers precisely to the sense of dodging boredom. Its construction is attributed to Alberto V D'Este in 1385 but it was under the Duchy of Borso d'Este that the expansion and embellishment works were carried out. The Duke of Ferrara, in fact, called the most important artists of the Renaissance to fresco the rooms on the main floor. Among all, the fresco of the Cycle of the Months stands out, which celebrates the Este family in an astrological and mythological key. Today, the Delizia has become the Schifanoia Museum where it is still possible to admire in all their splendor the ancient Borsian frescoes recovered and restored. The museum itinerary starts from the fourteenth-century wing, the oldest, to retrace centuries of collections of coins, ceramics, paintings, sculptures and busts.
