Castello Mina della Scala
The prestigious noble residence houses keeps memories and relics
In Casteldidone, on the border between Mantua and Cremona, stands a noble residence where time seems to have stopped. The visitor of the Mina della Scala Castle will find himself immersed in a noble atmosphere of other times. The rooms are richly decorated with antique furniture, tapestries, frescoes and, even, with a table ready to welcome the guest on this journey at the turn of the centuries. The itinerary winds through the Grand Staircase, the Billiard Room, the Library, the sitting rooms, the Historical Archive and the Alcova. A curiosity concerns the Staircase of Honor. It seems, in fact, that at its base is exposed a seventeenth-century historical bell at which, every full moon in January, the ghost of an ancestor of the family appears. In the private chamber chapel are collected writings and memories of the pontificate of Pope Pius XV. His sister, Countess Giulia Persico della Chiesa, was the guardian of his memory and bequeathed them to her great-grandchildren, the current owners of the castle. All around there is a suggestive country atmosphere where the green is lost in sight veiled by the characteristic mist.
