Palazzo Mina Bolzesi Academia Cremonensis
Evocative representation of the Four Elements in realistic 19th century frescoes
In the center of Cremona stands the empire-style architecture of Palazzo Mina Bolzesi. On the façade there is a tympanum with bas-reliefs on the attic supported by Corinthian columns in grey marble. The coat of arms commemorates the Bolzesi family who commissioned its construction around 1815. Subsequently, the Palace was bequeathed to the Episcopal Seminary which still holds the property. The interiors are richly frescoed. In the Salone dei Ricevimenti you can recognize the hand of the artist Giuseppe Diotti. The Dance of the Seasons, the Condemnation of Antigone and Ulysses at Alcinous decorate the walls, while the scene of Olympus illuminates the ceiling. The frescoes are intended to be the representation of the natural elements Earth, Fire, Water and Air. Today, Palazzo Mina Bolzesi houses the Cremonensis Academy, the international academy of violin making and bow making.
