Castello di San Pietro in Cerro
Legend has it that the ghost of the beautiful Agata hovers ...
The Castle of San Pietro in Cerro is a charming noble residence that has remained intact until today. Its construction, commissioned by Bartolomeo Barritteri, dates to 1460 and has a quadrangular plan with two towers and an entrance keep. Although it may seem austere to the eye it retains an elegant and refined interior architecture. On the inner courtyard there are two series of overlapping arches, while the ceiling of the interior has wooden beams which make the rooms warm and welcoming. Particularly interesting are the Library that collects over two thousand ancient volumes on the history of Piacenza and the Hall of Arms. The passion for the East of the current owners has given rise to an extraordinary exhibition of terracotta statues in the basement of the castle. It is a faithful reproduction authorized by the Beijing History Museum of Xian Warriors. Along the entire patrol route between the two towers there is the MiM-Museum in Motion. It is hosts art collections from the post-war period to the present day. As with any self-respecting castle, here too a legend survives: that of the ghost of Agatha. The girl was in the service of the Counts Barritteri who fell in love with a squire in return. They got married but a jealous Lord made the girl his own. The squire avenged the dishonour, but he was sentenced to death. Agatha, saddened by what had happened, threw herself from the castle tower.
