Palazzo Ducale di Guastalla
Thriving courtyard of refined taste and refined style
Around Palazzo Ducale unfolded the historical-political events of the Duchy of Guastalla. The sovereignty over these territories overlooking the Great River began with the Counts Torelli in 1521 and continued under the Gonzaga in 1567. For over two centuries the palace had administrative functions that lasted even after the fall of the last ruling dynasty. The palace represents an important example of Renaissance architecture expressed through the Cortile d’Onore, the Hall and the Noble Floor. The annexation of the Palazzo della Rocchetta, the Theatre and the Cavallerizza has made it a flourishing court, famous for its refined taste and refined style. In north wing of the Palace there is the Maldotti Picture Gallery. The interesting exhibition includes works from the Maldotti Library. The palace of the circuit of the Castles of the Po, even today, preserves Renaissance suggestions that emotionally involve the tourist in the rediscovery of times gone by.
