Palazzo Cattaneo
Neoclassical scenes under a majestic elliptical dome
In the center of Cremona stands Palazzo Cattaneo, a rare example of sixteenth-century architecture that was owned by the Ariberti family. In 1788 it underwent major renovations at the behest of the Marquis Antonio Cattaneo who entrusted the project to the architect Faustino Rodi. The important façade made with the ashlar technique dates back, however, to 1869. Through the courtyard you can access the Staircase of Honor that leads to the noble floor, a true jewel of Palazzo Cattaneo. The refined decoration of the interiors recalls neoclassical scenarios such as the majestic Hall of Caryatids surmounted by an elliptical dome of great visual impact, the Hall of Diana, the Hall of Mirrors and the Hall of the Tree. Palazzo Cattaneo, considered the historic residence of Lombardy, is part of the circuit of the Castles of the Po.
