Rocca di Soragna
Artistic, cultural and historical beauties tell the story of the Rocca di Soragna
The construction of the Rocca di Soragna dates to 1385 at the behest of the Marquises Bonifacio and Antonio Lupi. In the beginning the site certainly had a defensive purpose given the presence of mighty walls and quadrangular plan. Subsequently, the fortress assumed more the role of a noble residence. In the wake of the cultural and artistic renewal of the '500 began the first embellishment works that continued even during ‘600. The Lupi family still owns the castle and over the centuries has collected important works of art. In the three sections of the castle, you can perceive a particular taste for furnishings. Important pieces in Empire style, Baroque style, busts, and terracotta vases are present. The Chapel of Santa Croce is the flagship of the Rocca di Soragna. Interventions by famous artists such as Giovanni Bolla, Pietro Oliva and Giovanni Mercoli have made it a treasure chest of Baroque art. The Historical Gallery was obtained from the rooms where, according to legend, stood the cells of the nuns belonging to the Lupi family.
